The need for the A+ After-School Program

Many of the families in the Wautoma Area School District have limited income and resources.  They are working hard to make a better life for themselves and their children but with limited resources it can be difficult to help their children with school work or to provide them with experiences that enrich their lives.  The A+ Program was created to address these needs by providing the students with academic support and enrichment activities.

A+ Program Results

  • The A+ Program has shown steady growth in program registration from fewer than 300 in 2002 to about 550 in 2009.
  • Students who regularly participate in the A+ Program get better grades and higher test scores than students who do not participate in the program.
  • Parent surveys indicate a high degree of satisfaction with the A+ Program.  They feel that the program has helped their child succeed in school and has helped to reduce stress at home.
  • After-School Program outcomes not only benefit children and their families they also benefit communities.  A recent study estimates that for every dollar invested in after-school programs saves taxpayers three dollars.

Funds raised through events like the Reach The Peak Race are used to provide financial aid for families who cannot afford the program fees and for purchasing much needed supplies and program equipment.
